My Approach

SEB_1.jpg

A quick story time example: Take my own journey with belting and high notes — I struggled for years because I would tense every time I tried to project. I think it stemmed from childhood. My mum had terrible migraines and we had to stay very quiet at home; I learned to sing softly and prettily, shying away from the vulnerability of projecting. The shift happened when I turned into my body without judgment, honouring the tension's protective role, and playfully testing new options — grounded in the truth that the voice is a muscle, trainable through pinpointing exactly which ones control specific sounds. I know have access to belt and high notes with out the fear of instability.

For those who are interested in my approach here is a brief overview :

My lessons are deeply personalised to each singer, drawing from a mindfulness-based approach that prioritises curiosity, playfulness, and non-judgemental exploration over rigid rules or repetitive drills. We begin right where you are — mapping out your current vocal habits, both the physical ones (like tension patterns or breath flow) and the emotional ones (such as anxiety around certain notes or styles). This awareness is foundational: without understanding what you're doing unconsciously, meaningful change simply can't happen.

A big part of the work is remembering that the voice is a muscle that can be trained. By understanding which muscles create which sounds, we isolate specific vocal functions, so you feel exactly how to switch between options instead of guessing. That isolation builds real confidence, because you know how to reproduce a sound on purpose, not just hope it shows up.

We also use mimicry: borrowing colours, phrasing, and stylistic choices from the artists you love. Over time, this helps you internalise new skills and naturally blend them into your own unique sound, rather than imitating anyone else. This can be a lot of fun!

As a jazz pianist, musicality and ear training are woven into lessons through simple games and exercises that connect technique to real songs. The aim is for you to feel freer, more expressive, and genuinely excited by what your voice can do — not just in the practice room, but on stage, in the studio, or wherever you sing. Finally, we sing songs!! And we find the joy because singing is all about that!
